I love a smoothie, and this blackberry cheesecake combo hits the spot, without being too rich. Fruit-based smoothies on a keto diet are a bit of a minefield, so a little restraint and research is needed before throwing any fruit into your blender.
I’ve gone for blackberries here, not least as they’re great on a cheesecake! but also as they’re one of the lowest net carb fruits, coming in at around 6 grams of carbs per 100g. Compare that to that most common of smoothie additions, the banana coming in around 20-25g net carbs each!
I’m currently trying out intermittent fasting as a part of my regimen, I find it frees up so much of my day and when combined with ketosis I have much more even energy levels throughout the day (no more sugar highs and lows!).
I’m trying to do a 20 hour fast, 4-hour feeding window approach, which doesn’t leave much time to get in a reasonable amount of calories for the day. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to spend that time after work cooking and eating multiple meals and that’s where smoothies such as this one come in.
Adding in a little mct oil for a boost of fat, a smoothie first thing when I get home tastes great and keeps me going for an hour or two until I get round to cooking dinner. What are your experiences and tips for combining the keto diet with intermittent fasting?
