Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground beef 454g
  • ½ pound ground pork 227g
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 113g
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese 30g
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt 5g
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper 1g

Marinara Sauce

  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes 240ml
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil 30ml
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano 1g
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil 0.5g
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • 2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
  • 3. Take a small portion of the meat mixture and flatten it in your hand. Place a small amount of mozzarella in the center and form the meat around the cheese, creating a ball. Ensure the cheese is fully enclosed. Repeat with the remaining meat and cheese.
  • 4. Place the stuffed meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the meatballs are browned and cooked through.
  • 5. While the meatballs are baking, heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
  • 6. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the saucepan. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 7. Once the meatballs are done, remove from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  • 8. Serve the meatballs with the marinara sauce spooned over the top or on the side for dipping.

Notes

For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinara sauce. If you're dairy-free, substitute the cheese with a dairy-free alternative or omit it entirely. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
