Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Cutting board
  • Chef’s knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces smoked salmon chopped
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh dill for garnish
  • ¼ cup water optional, for adjusting consistency

Instructions

  • Heat the butter in a large pot over medium heat until melted.
  • Add the diced onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, until fragrant.
  • Pour in the chicken broth, increase the heat to medium-high, and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce the heat to low and gently whisk in the heavy cream, ensuring it's fully incorporated.
  • Stir in the prepared horseradish, lemon juice, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt to taste.
  • Add the chopped smoked salmon to the pot and let the soup simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • If a thinner consistency is desired, add water in small increments until the preferred consistency is reached.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh dill.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute the heavy cream with full-fat coconut milk.
Ensure the smoked salmon is free from added sugars to keep it keto-friendly.
Adjust the level of horseradish to suit your desired level of heat.
This soup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for a longer shelf life. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave when ready to serve.
