Ingredients

Chaffle

  • 1 large egg 50g
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 112g/4oz
  • ½ tsp garlic powder 1.5g
  • ½ tsp baking powder 2g

Tuna Melt Filling

  • 1 can tuna in water, drained 5oz/142g
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise 30g
  • ¼ tsp salt 1.5g
  • ¼ tsp black pepper 0.5g
  • ½ stalk celery, finely chopped 20g
  • 1 tbsp red onion, finely chopped 10g

Topping

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese 56g/2oz

Instructions

  • Preheat your waffle iron to medium-high heat. In a bowl, whisk the egg until frothy. Stir in the shredded mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, and baking powder until well combined.
  • Spoon half of the chaffle batter onto the hot waffle iron, spreading it out to the edges. Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the chaffle is golden and crispy. Remove and set aside. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, salt, pepper, chopped celery, and red onion. Mix thoroughly until the ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Take one chaffle and spread the tuna mixture evenly on top. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Place the tuna-topped chaffle back into the waffle iron and close the lid lightly, just enough to melt the cheese and warm the tuna, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the tuna melt chaffle from the waffle iron and serve immediately. Repeat with the second chaffle.

For a crispier chaffle, cook for an additional minute.
