Ingredients

For the Cauliflower Tater Tots

  • 1 medium head cauliflower (about 1 lb / 450 g)
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup almond flour

For the Gravy

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons almond flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Topping

  • 1 cup cheese curds
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). Cut the cauliflower into florets and steam them until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain well and let cool slightly.
  • In a large bowl, mash the steamed cauliflower using a potato masher or food processor until smooth. Add the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and almond flour. Mix until well combined.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using your hands, shape the cauliflower mixture into small, tot-like shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet. You should have about 20 tots.
  • Bake the tater tots in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • While the tater tots are baking, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the almond flour and cook for about 1 minute until lightly browned. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
  • Once the tater tots are done, remove them from the oven. Place a generous serving of tater tots on each plate, ladle the hot gravy over the tots, and top with cheese curds.
  • If desired, sprinkle with fresh parsley for a pop of color. Serve immediately and enjoy your Keto Cauliflower Tater Tot Poutine!

Notes

For a spicier version, consider adding some cayenne pepper to the tater tot mixture. This dish can be easily adjusted to suit your taste preferences by swapping out the cheese or using a different type of gravy.
