Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Cheese grater
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef 680g
  • 6 slices bacon, chopped 170g
  • 1 medium onion, diced about 110g
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 113g
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened 120g
  • ¼ cup heavy cream 60ml
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste 30g
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 15g
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for a spicy kick
  • 3 large eggs
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  • In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, tomato paste, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes, until fragrant.
  • Lower the heat and mix in the cream cheese and heavy cream, stirring until fully incorporated and the mixture is creamy.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, stir in the crispy bacon and shredded cheddar cheese.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs. Gradually incorporate the eggs into the skillet mixture, stirring well.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
  • Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

For a variation, try adding sliced pickles on top before baking for an extra tangy crunch.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
Ensure the casserole has cooled completely before slicing to allow it to set properly for the best texture and flavor.
