Equipment

  • Grill or skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese 1 oz or 28g each
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 large lettuce leaves to use as buns
  • 1 small tomato sliced (approx. 4 oz or 113g)
  • ¼ red onion thinly sliced (approx. 1.5 oz or 40g)
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp sugar-free ketchup
  • 8 slices dill pickle

Instructions

  • Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  • Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, about 3/4-inch thick.
  • Place the patties on the grill or skillet, and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until a crust forms and they are easy to flip.
  • Flip the burgers and cook for another 3 minutes for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness.
  • A minute before the burgers are done, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and let it melt.
  • Assemble the cheeseburgers by placing a lettuce leaf on a plate, followed by a cheese-topped patty.
  • Add tomato slices, red onion, and pickles on top of the meat.
  • Spread mayonnaise, mustard, and sugar-free ketchup on another lettuce leaf and place it on top of the burger to complete your keto-friendly bun.
  • Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make four burgers.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

For a well-done burger, cook each side for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Feel free to customize the toppings to suit your taste, keeping in mind to maintain the keto-friendly aspect.
If you don't have a grill, you can cook the burgers in a skillet on the stovetop.
