Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 black tea bags or 2 tablespoons loose leaf
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 cardamom pods, crushed or 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 2 cloves or a pinch of ground cloves
  • 1 star anise optional
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper, freshly ground
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons grass-fed unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon MCT oil

Instructions

  • Begin by bringing the water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  • Add the tea bags, cinnamon stick, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, star anise (if using), ginger slices, and black pepper to the boiling water.
  • Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the spices to infuse their flavors.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully take out the tea bags and spices. If using loose leaf tea, strain the mixture to remove the leaves and spices.
  • Pour the brewed spiced tea into a blender. Add the heavy cream, butter, and MCT oil.
  • Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds or until the mixture becomes frothy and well combined.
  • Serve immediately, dividing the chai into two mugs.

Notes

To make this Bulletproof Chai dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use ghee or coconut oil instead of butter.
Adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding keto-friendly sweeteners like stevia or erythritol.
The spices can be adjusted according to personal preference or availability.
Always use caution when blending hot liquids; ensure the lid is secure and blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high.
